The Purpose and The Climb

My name is James Repine, and in April 2026, I’ll be attempting to climb Lobuche East in Nepal — a 6,119-metre (20,075 feet) Himalayan peak. If I succeed, I’ll become one of the youngest Australians to reach a summit of this height. But for me, this Lobuche East climb isn’t about records or achievements; it’s about something much more important.

In December 2024, my mum was diagnosed with Myelofibrosis, a rare form of blood cancer. Seeing her face such a tough challenge inspired me to take action and create something meaningful—an initiative that could provide support for others facing similar battles. That’s why I founded Climbing for Cancer.

Every step I take on this expedition is dedicated to raising funds through donations to the Leukaemia Foundation. They support families just like mine, and I want to give back in any way I can. My goal is to turn this climb into real impact by helping fund research, care, and support for individuals living with blood cancer.

The climb itself won’t be easy. The altitude, freezing temperatures, and long days on the mountain will push me harder than anything I’ve done before. But I’m ready to put in the training, stay focused, and keep reminding myself why this matters. If climbing a mountain can help even one family feel supported during their toughest moments, then every challenge along the way will be worth it.

All donations made through the fundraising link go directly to the Leukaemia Foundation.

Thank you for supporting my climb — together, we’re taking steps toward a future with fewer families affected by blood cancer.
